    One of the most outstanding musicians of the modern era, French piano virtuoso Pierre-Laurent Aimard is full of innovative ideas when it comes to the keyboard. He has worked closely with celebrated contemporary composers including Messiaen and Boulez and won many prestigious awards. His programs are known for being diverse and philosophical, giving the audience a novel experience with his flawless timbre and meticulous interpretation. The Wall Street Journal praised him as "a brilliant musician and extraordinary visionary."


    An uncompromising perfectionist, Aimard brings a childlike wonder to this recital in Taiwan, creating a playful dialogue between different musical eras. Centering the program around the contemporary Hungarian composer Kurtág's Játékok ("Games"), Aimard interweaves Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and Schubert's Ländler, taking the audience on a journey through the past and present. By juxtaposing music from different eras, he demonstrates how composers influence each other across time and explores the contrasting sounds of the contemporary and classical.

    Pierre-Laurent Aimard is widely acclaimed as an authority on music of our time while recognised also for shedding fresh light on music of the past.


    Aimard has had close collaborations with leading composers including Helmut Lachenmann, Elliott Carter, Harrison Birtwistle, György Kurtág, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Marco Stroppa and Olivier Messiaen, and given many notable premieres; most recently Clara Iannotta's Piano Concerto for the Acht Brucken Festival in Cologne, which he repeats in autumn 2024 with Wiener Symphoniker under the direction of Elena Schwarz. He also continues his associations with chamber music partners both old and new, notably Tamara Stefanovich at the Leipzig Gewandhaus and Zürich's Fraumünster, and actor Mathieu Amalric at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.


    Aimard features prominently in numerous festival line-ups throughout the year including Musikfestspiel Berlin, Prague Spring Festival, and Klavierfestival Ruhr. His extensive recital schedule also includes Cité de la Musique in Paris, Amsterdam Muziekgebouw, Seoul Arts Centre, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Konzerthaus Dortmund, and Alte Oper Frankfurt.

    匈牙利作曲家庫塔格(György Kurtág)自1973年開始創作鋼琴作品集《遊戲》(匈牙利語 Játékok,意為「遊戲」),至今仍持續擴展中。這部曲集不僅是一系列短小精緻的鋼琴作品,更是庫塔格對「創造性音樂體驗」的深刻探索。


    《遊戲》原是為鋼琴學生而作,靈感來自兒童學習音樂的自然狀態。庫塔格在序言中寫道:「我們試著回憶孩子們是如何在沒有老師的情況下自行彈奏鋼琴的。」因此,《遊戲》不拘泥於傳統技法與和聲語言,而是鼓勵演奏者以自由、直覺、甚至帶有戲劇性的方式來體驗音樂。


    整部曲集形式多變,既有僅數秒的片段,也有情感濃烈的悼念作品、音響實驗,甚至戲謔幽默之作。其中一些作品需由兩位演奏者共同在同一架鋼琴上演出,有的則帶有文字提示或戲劇動作,模糊了音樂與表演、即興之間的界線。


    儘管篇幅短小,庫塔格在《遊戲》中展現出他對音響極致敏銳的掌握力,並持續挑戰聽眾與演奏者對「音樂」本質的理解。

    Since 1973, Hungarian composer György Kurtág has been composing Játékok ("Games")—an ongoing collection of piano pieces that continues to expand to this day. More than just a series of miniature works, Játékok is a profound exploration of creative musical experience.


    Originally conceived as teaching material for piano students, Játékok was inspired by the natural, uninhibited way children approach the instrument. In the preface, Kurtág wrote: "We should trust the picture of the child who improvises on the piano with the help of just one or two keys, producing sounds with pleasure and fantasy." In this spirit, the collection encourages performers to play freely, intuitively, and often theatrically—liberated from the constraints of traditional technique and harmony.


    The pieces in Játékok vary widely in form and tone: some last only a few seconds, while others are emotionally charged memorials, sonic experiments, or whimsical sketches. Some are written for piano four hands on a single instrument; others include textual instructions or theatrical gestures, blurring the line between music, improvisation, and performance art.


    Despite their brevity, the pieces reveal Kurtág's acute sensitivity to sound and silence, continuously challenging both performer and listener to reconsider the very essence of music.


    Játékok is not merely a set of pedagogical exercises—it is a poetic and radical journey into sound, memory, and the human condition.
