    2025 Dance Now Asia

Taipei Zhongshan Hall was designated a National Historic Monument in 2019 and completed the restoration and revitalization project in 2023, with a mission to promote the development of dance. To foster dance arts and cultivate creative performing talents, Taipei Zhongshan Hall launched the pilot edition of the “Dance Now Asia Festival” in 2023, and held its first full festival in 2024, bringing together dance companies from cities including Tokyo, Daegu, and Kuala Lumpur. This year (2025), the second edition will take place from August 11 to 17, featuring an international body workshop and Showcase performance. Through open calls for artists from Taiwan and abroad, the festival aims to nurture talent and facilitate international exchange, building a dedicated platform for Asian performing artists.

     【Curatorial Statement】

    2025 Dance Now Asia-Embody Asia

    Subjectivity Between Movement and Gaze

Since its launch in 2023, “Dance Now Asia,” jointly initiated by Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, enters its third year. This year, DNA’s main event will be hosted by the Daegu City Dance Company in Korea. Meanwhile, Taiwan, one of the festival's original initiators, will continue engaging in related activities across Asia, including returning to the stage of Taipei Zhongshan Hall.

The 2025 DNA Festival will once again be held in Taipei, gathering dancers and creators from various Asian regions. With the body as language, the festival initiates an artistic action that transcends geography, culture, and history. Under the theme "Seeking the Asian Body," the event poses a common question faced by contemporary Asian dancers: Can our bodies become our own language?

In the context of globalization, “Asia” is no longer just a region on a map but a complex assembly of cultural memories and experiences. The Taiwan edition of the festival upholds the curatorial spirit of Dance Now Asia—refusing to preset definitions of the “Asian body,” but rather exploring how each body continues to be shaped through historical pressures, cultural collisions, and creative freedom. The body of the dancer is not merely a spectacle, but a vessel of memory, a political echo, and a frontline of cultural dialogue.

    — Curator: Meimage Dance Artistic Director Hsiao-Mei Ho
