Jazz piano master Fred Hersch has captivated the music world for over three decades as a performer, composer, and educator. Celebrated for his refined touch and deeply poetic, inventive interpretations, Hersch is a 17-time GRAMMY nominee and a three-time Jazz Journalists Association Pianist of the Year. The New Yorker has hailed him as "a living legend," having shared the stage with jazz greats like Stan Getz and Joe Henderson, and collaborated across genres with classical virtuosos and pop icons alike.

Now, one of the most distinguished jazz piano poets of our time, Hersch brings his ensemble—the Fred Hersch Trio—to Taiwan for the very first time. Joined by longtime collaborators, bassist Drew Gress and drummer Peter Erskine, Hersch presents audiences a world of improvisational lyricism, expressed through his nuanced touch and the boundless freedom of the piano.

A member of jazz's piano pantheon, Fred Hersch has been an influential creative force over more than three decades as an improviser, composer, educator, bandleader, collaborator, and recording artist. He has been proclaimed "the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade" by Vanity Fair and "a living legend" by The New Yorker. A seventeen-time Grammy nominee, Hersch has garnered jazz's most prestigious awards, including a Doris Duke Artist (2016), Jazz Pianist of the Year from the Jazz Journalists Association (2011, 2016, 2018), and the Jazz Magazine (France) International Artist of the Year (2021). The Fred Hersch Trio was voted the #1 Jazz Group in the 2019 DownBeat Critics Poll.

An acclaimed and influential solo pianist, he has twelve solo recordings in his catalog including the 2024 release, Silent, Listening which is a collaboration with legendary producer Manfred Eicher for the ECM label. The New York Times calls him "a master who plays it his way",

While widely renowned for his playing, Hersch has earned similar distinction with his composing, among other awards. His large-scale setting of Walt Whitman's poetry for two voices and instrumental octet, Leaves of Grass garnered him a Guggenheim Fellowship in composition. He has received commissions from Roomful of Teeth, Igor Levit, the Lucerne Festival, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, the Doris Duke Millennium Fund, and the Gilmore Keyboard Festival.

Through more than twelve albums, the Fred Hersch Trio has remained at the pinnacle of modern jazz, venerated as the epitome of thrilling interplay and dynamic spontaneity. The Wall Street Journal calls the trio "one of the major ensembles of our time," while The New Yorker has applauded it for playing with "high lyricism and high danger." They were named the #1 Jazz Group of the Year by DownBeat magazine. His next trio album The Surrounding Green will be released on ECM Records in June 2025.

彼得．厄斯金 Peter Erskine

彼得・厄斯金自四歲起開始打鼓，以其演奏的多樣性與對跨領域合作的熱情而聞名。他參與錄製了 700 張專輯與電影配樂，曾獲得兩座葛萊美獎，並獲伯克利音樂學院（Berklee School of Music）頒授榮譽博士學位。

Peter Erskine has played drums since the age of 4 and is known for his versatility and love of working in different musical contexts. He appears on 700 albums and film scores, has won 2 Grammy Awards and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Berklee School of Music.

Fifty albums have been released under his own name or as co-leader. He has played with the Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson big bands, Weather Report, Steps Ahead, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Diana Krall, Kenny Wheeler, Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Brecker Brothers, The Yellowjackets, Pat Metheny & Gary Burton, John Scofield, et al, and has appeared as a soloist with the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, plus the London, Los Angeles, Chicago, BBC Symphony, Bochum, Tokyo Metropolitan, Yomiuri Nippon, Oslo and Berlin Philharmonic orchestras. He premiered Mark-Anthony Turnage's "Erskine — Concerto for Drumset & Orchestra" with Beethoven Orchester Bonn and performed it at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Peter has been voted "Best Jazz Drummer of the Year" ten times by the readers of Modern Drummer magazine and was elected into its Hall of Fame in 2017. 

德魯．格雷斯 Drew Gress

低音提琴手／作曲家德魯・格雷斯在當代即興音樂的廣大領域中，與眾多藝術家合作演出，經歷十分豐富。他是合作四重奏 Joint Venture 的創始成員之一，該團體在 Enja 廠牌發行的三張專輯《Joint Venture》、《Mirrors》等，皆獲得廣泛好評。

他目前領導位在紐約的四重奏樂團 Jagged Sky，演出他個人的原創作品。樂團成員包括 Dave Binney、Ben Monder 與 Kenny Wollesen，首張專輯《Heyday》已於義大利廠牌 Soul Note 發行。格雷斯曾在北美、南美、中美洲、歐洲與亞洲各地巡演，並曾擔任俄羅斯聖彼得堡音樂學院與美國科羅拉多大學博爾德分校的駐校藝術家。他曾獲得美國國家藝術基金會與 Meet the Composer 組織的補助，目前居住於紐約。

Bassist/composer Drew Gress has performed extensively with artists throughout the vast field of contemporary improvised music. He was a founding member of the cooperative quartet Joint Venture, whose three Enja albums, Joint Venture, and Mirrors, all received widespread critical acclaim.

He currently leads Jagged Sky, a New York-based quartet performing his original compositions. The band includes Dave Binney, Ben Monder, and Kenny Wollesen, and their debut recording, Heyday, was recently released on the Italian label Soul Note. Gress has toured North, South, and Central America, Europe, and Asia, and has served as Artist-in-Residence at St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia and at University of Colorado- Boulder. He has been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Meet the Composer, and currently resides in New York.

When Drew is not performing with Jagged Sky, he can be heard with the Fred Hersch Trio, the Dave Douglas String Group, Tim Berne's Paraphrase, Andy Laster's Hydra, Erik Friedlander's Chimera, the Marc Copland Trio, and Don Byron's "Bug Music" and Quartet.
